Kindness And Workplace, Yes! It Surprisingly Matters

Workplace is our second home as we spend a large amount of our precious time at workplace, I believe. Managing people, retaining people, loving people and taking care of them is not an easy task. Earlier the boss would be the person now a professional human resource manager (HR manager) do this task. People come and go, nobody takes care of them. Today I’m going to tell you a short story, how I changed a man’s heart. Before telling you the story, I’ll tell you how I met him. Hmm in 2016 when I joined a start-up as the head, I got no team so when I started building a great team, I found that people come and people go and nobody takes care of this. Recruiters do their task of getting people and HR managers give them relieving. 🙂 I always thought why people leave the team for which they once willing to join. Right! Many people leave after getting training and for making their salaries higher but many people go due to their either boss or their working environment. Now I’m going to tell you a story how I managed to retain a person with kindness.

In 2016, when I joined a stat-up and started building a team, I got a person named Homdev and we always call him Dev (He likes this name 🙂). He is a graphics designer and creates the UIs and graphics. He was a shy boy who always keep smiling whenever we look at him with a little smile. Dev performs his job very quickly and with passion and as sometimes the work requires changes, communication, new concepts or completely new task. He is always ready to do it and complete it. I always behave like his big brother and support him in all conditions. Whenever he is sad or someone is misbehaving him, he always talks to me and I create solutions for him. I remember a day when he didn’t have lunch and I saw him sad, I talked to him and he said “I’ll sleep peacefully after many days”. 😢 One day, he was scared due to a ghost and talked to me. I give him preference in most situations and support him in difficult time with kindness. Sometimes I also got angry on him and didn’t talked for few days and he came to me, sometimes he want leaves for holidays and he didn’t get his leaves approved and I approved it. 🙂 One day he said that he got selected in an organization and he is going to get good hike in salary and he don’t want to go but as he was got married, he needs to go. I supported him and was with his decision but after his last day in the company he didn’t went to his new organization instead he came to me asking if he should go or not. I motivated him and asked him to go and join there as he needs it and he went there. On the next day, I was sitting in my office and I heard the same voice, “Good morning sir”. 😅 Oh God!! I immediately asked him what happened, why he is here then he said that he couldn’t concentrate and kept thinking of here. He didn’t leave the company and stayed with me.

We ignore people sometimes, we punish them, we shout at them, we misbehave this don’t make us a good person or make our work done but it makes them feel bad and they leave without saying anything. If we think, workplace as our home and people working as part of our family, we’ll enjoy working there with our big family and will be able to take better decisions for us and them too.

I’ve many stories like this when the kindness at workplace helped transform the people and make them fly higher. I’ve seen people came and go but it really doesn’t matter for me, I try to be kind to everyone and this makes them feel comfortable. I live like the workplace is my second home and it feels very good.
